LOVESICK SEA PLAY

performed by Janaki Ranpura as part of J-J Trinket’s Double-Jointed Festival Series

About J-J Trinket’s Double-Jointed Festival Series

J-J Trinket has been staging puppet pieces since 1999. The current series combines physical theater dynamics as developed in Paris by Jacques Lecoq with shadow play based on Larry Reed’s re-invention of Balinese wayang kulit. The pieces explore new relationships between shadow screen, audience, and actor.

About the actor

Janaki Ranpura studied at Yale University and the Lecoq School of Physical Theater in Paris. Puppetry became part of her theater practice through interning with Peter Schumann’s Bread & Puppet Theater and Larry Reed’s Shadowlight Productions. Her work probes how people use and share narrative. She has performed at Zellerbach Hall, the Forum at Yerba Buena, and NY’s New Victory Theater. She performs a hand and rod puppet show in schools through Omax Pi Puppet Theater.
