Hello Guild,
Dawn Stewart, the Camp Program Director for a cub scout summer camp in
Woodland (near Sacramento) is looking to hire a puppet show. She sent the
information below with her request: (her contact info is at the bottom of
the email.) Michael
I am looking for a puppet show to fit in the theme of Knights of the
Roundtable. Cub Scout Camp has this theme this year. I am looking for a
show for either June 16 (25-30 minutes) around 6pm OR June 18 (30-40
minutes) about 8pm. Our camp is in Woodland, at the Nelson's Grove
campgrounds.

job offer in Bay Area :: February 19, 2008.
I happen to notice this job offer on the PofA notice board and thought our
local Bay Area puppeteers might want to know about it. The company's
website is http://www.zanzibarpuppets.com/index.html - They may have
already found the performers they want, but in any case, guild members can
see what one company is doing in the the Bay Area. I do not know the work of this company nor am I recommending it (for that reason.) While the backgrounds of the many persons working on this play look impressive, any company proporting to produce a puppet production of this apparent scope and scale (and budget) that does not require that their performers be experienced puppeteers raises a red flag for me. (Isn't it kind of like putting together a band and saying musical experience would be a plus but not a requirement?) So, if you are interested, approach at your own risk.
Michael

Hi,
I’m a parent at Glenview Elementary, and I’m writing to you to ask your support for our 10th Annual Read-A-Thon. This year we hope to raise $20,000 to support our school library and provide scholarships for after-school programs. We are looking for a children's performer/puppeteer who will do a performance for the two classes at Glenview who read the most minutes and raise the most money for the Read-a-Thon. The performance would be for about 50 kids and could be any grade K-5 (depending on which classes win). Since it is a fundraiser we don't have a lot of $ to offer but we can come up with a small honorarium. We are hoping to set up the performance for sometime in April during the school day.
Glenview Elementary is an Oakland public school, nestled between the hills and the flatlands, drawing both an ethnically and socio-economically diverse population. About 41% of our students qualifies for free and reduced lunches. Our families represent countries from around the globe and speak more than ten different languages. This amazing diversity is part of what makes Glenview such a great school.
For the past five years, we have been making strides to improve our school library in small increments as our budget allows. When we started, the school library functioned also as a storage room full of dusty boxes and outdated books. There was no librarian, and teachers checked out books on an honor system, re-shelving books on their own time. Through the dedication and hard work of parents, teachers and students, we are proud to open our “new” library doors this year to an automated cataloguing system, a beautiful mural painted by a local artist, refurbished and donated computers, student-size tables and chairs, a comfy rug area for storytelling, and a certified and accredited librarian! Students are now visiting the library several times a week for research and reading. Now our goal is to replenish our collection, to retain our librarian and to provide other educational services to our students.
Over the course of our read-a-thon, students will be asked to log every minute they read and to fundraise in the community. On April 4th we’ll culminate the fundraiser with a celebration featuring local authors and illustrators. The students will spend the majority of their day just reading!
Please let me know if you would be available to do a performance for the class prize. Don't hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for your consideration!

"Polly Polar Bear and the Prince of the Sea," Review of "Rumpleskiltskin,"

the links to get both of the newsletter files, go to
http://www.sfbapg.org/newsletter.htm -
NOTE: ONCE AGAIN THERE ARE 2 PDF FILES FOR THE NEWSLETTER AND TO GET BOTH
YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD BOTH FILES. I apologize for this and I don't know why
it happens. If there are any pdf-printer savvy guild members who have any
idea how to get around this problem I would love to hear from you. I write
the guild newsletter in a word processing program and then use a pdf printer
software to "print" the file as a pdf file, and it will only recognize some
of the pages. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this.
