the World, report on Halloween Follies, last meeting minutes, HOLIDAY PUPPET
SHOW CALENDAR and more is online and ready for downloading for viewing or
printing. You may find it on our great guild website at http://sfbapg.org/ (go
to the newsletter link on the right, and don't forget to check out all the
other great stuff on our website!)
Or you can jump right to the download page at
http://www.sfbapg.org/newsletter/archives/000978.html#more
Happy Holidays from your newsletter editor,
Michael
PS: Special thanks to all of our great newsletter contributors who send in
articles, photos, reviews, and calendar listings, and to our new Calendar
Editor, Conrad Bishop. Without you all, our newsletter would be very
sparse! Keep up the good work, and if you have not sent in your submission
for a while, start the new year off by sending in your articles, etc.
I think a great addition to the newsletter would be a "gossip" column that
reports what various guild members are working on. Anyone want to be the
guild member news columnist? ("Gossip" sometimes has a negative
connotation, but I have heard that it is the foundation of civilization (or
something like that!))

HELP: seeking puppets for children :: November 27, 2007.

Hello Guild,
We are looking for your help in locating a source for puppets.

Valerie and I are going to be doing a puppet project with elementary aged
children for the month of January. We are looking to beg, borrow, rent, or
buy a collection of hand or glove puppets to use with small hands (k-5
children). We are hoping to get together around 30-50 puppets of various
characters that can be used in creative drama. Hopefully we can find puppet
characters that have a style (simple yet appealing) that allow them to
appear in the same play. We wish to avoid mouth puppets (puppets
principally operated by moving the mouths) in favor of simpler hand or glove
puppets. These can be animals or human. Generic human characters that can
be simply costumed or have hats or wigs made to create specific characters
would be very useful. We have a very modest budget for this project, so
must consider low cost puppets if we are purchasing.
Should you have puppets for sale or loan or rent, or know of sources of
inexpensive puppets please let us know. We are going to be somewhat
selective in order to try to achieve a certain design sensibility for the
productions, so might have to reject puppet designs that don't fit in with
the other puppets, but we would like to know what our options are so would
be interested in various possibilties.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Yours,
--
Michael & Valerie Nelson

December calendar listings :: November 24, 2007.

Dear Guild members,
As far as our Calendar editor (Conrad Bishop) knows, Herbert Lange is the
only guild member performing shows this December. Is this true? I always
thought December was a busy month for puppeteers. It raises the question as
to why we have our holiday party in December if everyone is sitting around
wondering what to do in December. : )
SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY LISTINGS you may send them to Conrad (our guild calendar
editor at the CC-ed address above.
Thanks, and I do hope at least some of you are working this holiday season!
Best,
Michael Nelson

Hospital Puppetry Idea over the Holidays - A promising opportunity to make the guild known in public. :: November 09, 2007.

Hi everybody,

This is Herbert, the Chair of the Future Meetings Committee.

At the last guild meeting in October, the very fun one at Children's Fairyland in Oakland, I presented a Hospital Puppetry Idea for the Holidays in order to support both our guild (publicitywise) and children in need.

Curious to find out more?
You can find all the important details in the newsletter (last section/page).

If the idea sounds appealing to you (hope it does) and you would like to participate, please get back to me as soon as you can, preferably before Friday, November 16. After that date, I will contact Children's Hospital in Oakland to offer them a free show of RUMPELSTILTSKIN. Nina Dees has indicated some interest to possibly cover Stanford, but this is not fully clear yet.

There is not much time left before the Holidays.
Many members are very busy around that time of the year, I know.
So if you can't participate in the project, but would like to share some feedback, thoughts on the issue, etc., I'd be more than happy to hear from you.

Take good care meanwhile and enjoy the upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations!

Fall Cheers to all of you!

Herbert

Looking for new home for my mom's puppets :: November 02, 2007.

Hi:
I am Betty Stewart's daughter. She was active in your puppet guild and left behind many wonderful puppets puppets that she made when she passed away on Oct. 18. I am looking for some assistance in finding a new home for these puppets, somewhere that needs them and will use them.

Thanks,
Judi

November Newsletter is online and ready to view or download :: November 02, 2007.

Hello Guild,
Your November 2007 newsletter is online and ready at
http://www.sfbapg.org/newsletter.htm - Note that this month there are 4 PDF
files for the newsletter. The first 2 are the normal 8 page newsletter (for
some strange reason two different programs would not make the
newsletter into one pdf file, so I was stuck with two), and the 2
supplements are pages 1 and 2 of Nick Barone's foam puppet patterns from the
workshop he gave at the last guild meeting. The patterns are also included
on page 7 of the guild newsletter in scaled down form. Also in the
newsletter is an article on giant black Madonna puppets, PuppetLOVE, notice
for the next meeting in January (the 12!), calendar and more.
