SFBAPG: Into the New Millennium

Last Spring a group of dedicated guild members met to address some core questions about the guild and its role in our community. Perhaps in essence we could say that the questions are "What should the guild be now? How can we best serve our members and the art of puppetry in general and in the Bay Area?" I would like to continue that dialogue and need your input as a guild member. In order to facilitate this exploration into the future direction of the guild, it is my intent to ask for your input through the newsletter and the email list. Please write back with your thoughts and responses. If you wish your response to be private (your ideas shared, but not your name) write directly to me (Michael Nelson) at Box 2296, Yountville, CA 94599 (or call at 707-363-4five73) or email directly to me at mail at magicalmoonshine dot org.
If you wish to share your comments directly with the sfbapg email list you can email them to sfbapg at yahoogroups dot com. Our goal is to, with your help, take your input and formulate a direction and a 10 year plan for the guild. Please respond thoughtfully.

TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION:

The following is from the SFBAPG Constitution and Bylaws:

SECTION 2. PURPOSE - The purpose of this organization is to encourage and promote puppetry as a means of communication, as a performing art; to enhance the proficiency of the art of puppetry, both professional and amateur, by publications, workshops, conventions, meetings, lectures, advisory services, and any and all other means and methods.

QUESTION: Do you feel that this description is still relevant to SFBAPG (is this an accurate description of what the guild should be doing? Is it an accurate description of what the guild is doing?) Does it need to be revised, updated (if so, how? Suggestions?) Would you add anything? Remove anything? Where do you think the guild should be focusing its attentions, efforts? Are we serving puppetry and our members as best we can?

RELATED QUESTION: Why did you join the guild? Is the guild what you wanted it to be or what you think it should be? Is it doing what you think it should be doing? Areas of improvement? How can we bring the guild into the new millennium, make it relevant to now?

FREE PUPPET STAGES :: November 14, 2006.

This message comes from fellow SFBAPG member, Ronna Leon. Please
contact Ronna directly at ronnaleon aol dot com or 707-746-55nine7.

Joe and I are getting rid of about five puppet stages. FREE for pick up by van.

(1) A marionette platform stage used by Tony Urbano long ago,
(2) A small marionette stage with opera proportions worked from a
small platform bridge, a rod puppet stage for two people with "tree"
scenery stands,
(3) A two person hand puppet stage,
(4) A small (very) hand puppet stage shadow screen,
(5) and a few other things.

We are giving up storing things we know we won't be using again in
the last twenty years of our "career" but would hope there are still
puppeteers out there who could use these stages rather than turning
them to scrap lumber.

Would you let guild members know about these? They can call us
directly to arrange to see and hopefully take away. Some have
curtains, others do not or would need new curtains and attention.
