2007 PofA national festival looking for performances :: September 13, 2006.

From Nancy Smith, the Artistic Director for the upcoming 2007
national festival:

Hello everyone!

The deadline for performance applications for Puppet Rampage 2007 is October
1. The National P of A Festival will be held in St. Paul July 17-22, 2007.
You can get an application from the website - _www.puppetrampage2007.org_
(http://www.puppetrampage2007.org) .

Some performance slots are already filled with awesome acts, but we still
need more good shows, especially children/family shows and shows that can be
performed outdoors during the day. It really helps if you can send a video.
If you know of a good show, please encourage them to apply.

Get those applications in!

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET
Sept. 12, 2006
6pm
San Francisco Public Library
Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin St.
Free and open to the public

ITVS Community Cinema, KQED, and the San Francisco Public Library present:

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET reminds us
that social change can come from the most
unlikely sources, including a team of Muppets. We
follow three producers from the Sesame Street
Workshop to Bangladesh, Kosovo and South Africa
where they localize the world’s most-watched
children’s television program with indigenous
songs, puppets and curricula. The cultural and
production challenges they face reflect the
complex political struggles of each country.
Education is always more than alphabets and
numbers, and the contradictions inherent in
teaching humane values in a world where AIDS,
ethnic genocide and poverty dominate the
landscape make this film a must-see for anyone
interested in intercultural dialogue.

If you are interested please contact me Mo
Kinberg at 510-452-7178 moriahkinberg at yahoo dot com.
I am the Regional Outreach Coordinator for iTVS.
ITVS.org. I would like to organize a series of
workshops in addition to the film where San
Francisco youth would make puppets that represent
their neighborhood, ethnic background or
personality.

Thank you.

Puppet Production of "Man of La Mancha" :: September 12, 2006.

Location: Main Theater, Department of Theatre and Dance, UC Davis, Davis Ca, 95616.For tickets or more information please call:(530) 754-2787 or 1-866-754-ARTS or go to: http://theatredance.ucdavis.edu/manoflamancha.html

Preview: Thursday, March 1
Performances: Fri-Sun, March 2-4; Thu-Sun, March 8-11

The production is a full staging of the musical "Man of La Mancha" using life-size bunraku-like puppets to represent all the characters in Quixote's fantasy world. We did a bare bones workshop of it in June and it went well giving us plenty to work on for the full production in March.

I would be grateful if you'd pass this information on to your guild members! I have pictures available for use in newsletters if you'd like.

Thanks very much!

theater entrance, facing the lake. Don't go through the main gate.

gate isn't open, call loudly. Someone will be available from
3:30-4:45 pm to open the gate. Emergency cell # 707 738-5906.

4:00 pm ALADDIN

From "1001 Arabian Nights", a poor but clever boy encounters a magic
lamp, a powerful genie, and an evil magician in his quest for love
and wealth. Adapted by Lewis Mahlmann. Puppets designed by William
Stewart Jones.

4:45 pm WORKSHOP COMBINATION: "Hands On" and "Critical
Response" led by Lee Armstrong & Tim Giugni

These two workshops are a combination of some ideas from 2
interesting workshops given at the Seattle Festival, by Chris
Griffith and Shari Aronson of Circus Minimus, Minneapolis.

"Hands On"

Great ideas to harness creative thinking, observation and bringing a
puppet to life, including getting people involved in "hands on"
exercises. This will also include some Czech styled puppet
manipulation techniques and some simple exercises to warm up the
hands. Approx 30-45 minutes. This will be co-led by Tim Giugni and Lee Armstrong.

"Critical Response: Getting and Giving Feedback That Works"

Whether you're a beginner or a professional, nothing advances your
artistry more than trying out your work in front of an audience. But
often viewers don't know how to give you honest information that you
can really use, or they will attempt to change the work without
understanding the artist's vision. Choreographer, educator and
MacArthur Genius grant winner, Liz Lerman originally developed the
Critical Response Talkback for use in critiquing her dance company.
Using the "Hands On" workshop, we will apply the structure of Critical
Response. Participants will see how these simple guidelines for
evaluation can be applied to their work. Approx 20-30 minutes.
