Folkmanis, our own Bay Area puppet toy company has been delighting
imaginations for over 30 years with their amazing variety of innovative
puppets. Here's a "behind the scenes" look at this world famous company.
Wendy Morton and Carlene Cordova, of Folkmanis Puppets will talk about the
creative end of their industry. See Folkmanis puppets in action. Try on
their new line of puppets. Pick up tips on website and video production from
the Folkmanis experts. A preview of their work can be seen at the Folkmanis
website, www.folkmanis.com. Plus, local puppeteers, therapists and educators
will show how they use Folkmanis puppets in their work.
Bios of presenters
*Wendy Morton* has joined Folkmanis Puppets after many years working in the
film industry for ILM as a model maker, puppeteer, and set painter. She has
also created many exciting shadow puppet productions and just received a
grant from Theatre Bay Area.
*Carlene Cordova*'s directing career began at an early age by putting on
puppet shows for the neighborhood kids. She is currently the online and
video producer and a writer for Folkmanis Puppets. Carlene emerged onto the
independent film scene in 2005 with the award-winning feature documentary,
*RINGERS: LORD OF THE FANS*, which she co-wrote, produced and directed. This
documentary covers how "The Lord of the Rings" books influenced pop-culture
for the past 50 years. It is narrated by Dominic Monaghan (TV's *LOST* and *The
Lord of the Rings* Trilogy) and features: Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen,
Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and many others. Prior to that she was a Senior
Producer for Sony Pictures online network, Screenblast.com and was an award
winning producer/director for her company Stormcrow Entertainment in Los
Angles.

*From the North* * - Hwy. 4/ I-80 (Sacramento, Vallejo, Martinez, Pinole):*
- Hwy. 4 to I-80 West
- I-80 west toward Oakland/San Francisco
- Exit at Hilltop Drive, get into the left lane.
- Turn left at Shane Drive (2nd stoplight), Follow directions from ***
*From the south (Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond):*
- I-80 East toward Sacramento
- El Portal Drive exit from I-80, and turn left onto El Portal Drive
- Right onto Fordham Street
- Left onto Shane Drive, Follow directions from ***
*From the east (Walnut Creek, Concord, Lafayette):*
- From Hwy. 24, take Orinda/ Richmond exit-stay on this road about 10
miles to El Sobrante, Camino Pablo becomes the San Pablo Dam Road.
- Stay on San Pablo Dam Road to El Portal Drive.
- Right onto El Portal Drive, go under freeway
- Right onto Fordham Street, Continue to the second stoplight at a T
intersection
- Left onto Shane Drive, Follow directions from ***
*From the west (over the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge)*
- From the bridge, take the Castro Street exit; follow signs to the
Richmond Parkway (under the freeway)
- Richmond parkway to San Pablo Avenue
- Right on San Pablo Avenue to El portal Drive
- Left onto El Portal Drive, to the third stoplight, which is at Fordham
Street.
- Turn left onto Fordham, through a residential area. Go about four
blocks to the second stop sign, which is a T intersection.
- Turn left onto Shane Drive, Follow directions from ***
**** proceed to the end of Shane (dead end) and turn right onto Campus Drive
which will take you up and around the campus. When you are descending, you
will be able to see a building on the left with a blue roof—that is the ELC.
There is parking on both sides of the street and no parking permits will be
required.*
*BART:*
*El Cerrito Del Norte Station* AC Transit #72 bus is the most direct to the
campus. Buses leave at 15 to 20 minute intervals. Buses #71 and #76 also
stop at CCC.
*Richmond Station: *AC Transit bus #71 bus is the most direct; it leaves
every 30 minutes. Bus #76 also stops at the CCC campus.
*AC Transit:*
There is an AC Transit Timed Transfer Stop on the Contra Costa College
Campus, near the Student Association (SA) Building and the Vocational (VA)
Building. This stop provides synchronized bus-to-bus or BART-to-bus
transfers.
AC Transit Bus lines that stop at the college are numbers 69,71,72,74,76 and
78.
BART Express lines 30Z, J & Q, and Vallejo Transit, stop at Hilltop Mall.
From there you can Transfer to AC Transit #69, 72, or 74 which stop at
Contra Costa College.
