4:00 pm ALADDIN
From "1001 Arabian Nights", a poor but clever boy encounters a magic
lamp, a powerful genie, and an evil magician in his quest for love
and wealth. Adapted by Lewis Mahlmann. Puppets designed by William
Stewart Jones.
4:45 pm WORKSHOP COMBINATION: "Hands On" and "Critical
Response" led by Lee Armstrong & Tim Giugni
These two workshops are a combination of some ideas from 2
interesting workshops given at the Seattle Festival, by Chris
Griffith and Shari Aronson of Circus Minimus, Minneapolis.
"Hands On"
Great ideas to harness creative thinking, observation and bringing a
puppet to life, including getting people involved in "hands on"
exercises. This will also include some Czech styled puppet
manipulation techniques and some simple exercises to warm up the
hands. Approx 30-45 minutes. This will be co-led by Tim Giugni and Lee Armstrong.
"Critical Response: Getting and Giving Feedback That Works"
Whether you're a beginner or a professional, nothing advances your
artistry more than trying out your work in front of an audience. But
often viewers don't know how to give you honest information that you
can really use, or they will attempt to change the work without
understanding the artist's vision. Choreographer, educator and
MacArthur Genius grant winner, Liz Lerman originally developed the
Critical Response Talkback for use in critiquing her dance company.
Using the "Hands On" workshop, we will apply the structure of Critical
Response. Participants will see how these simple guidelines for
evaluation can be applied to their work. Approx 20-30 minutes.
